I am an experienced presenter on topics related to my work in Psychology. I have guided intimate discussions and presented ideas to groups big and small, in person and on-line over the past several years.

SPEAKER

Recently, I have been sharing ideas from the book I have recently published on-line entitled, Living From the Inside Out: A Self-therapy Guide from self-awareness to self-acceptance, in a book study group format.

I have done workshops and trainings in conjunction with the Vietnamese Psychotherapy Association, the Vietnamese-French Psychotherapy Institute and been part of a Crisis Response training effort during the early days of the covid epidemic.

In 2019 I live-streamed a presentation organized by Family Medical Practice in Hanoi for several hundred listeners that was translated into Vietnamese.

The topic was "What Children Needs". I draw on experience because of years working with adults whose problems are rooted in childhood.
The audience was made up largely of parents who asked questions about how to relate to their kids in different scenarios.

Finding The Oak Tree Within

“Finding The Oak Tree Within” is the title of the talk I gave at the TEDx Hanoi event on January 2019.

The summary:

We are born with the natural potential to be our true self. Most of us get bogged down with emotional baggage and self-doubt. When we learn the importance of having our needs met, and how we can help one another, it opens the door to personal freedom, where we discover joy, spontaneity, appreciation of life and the beauty that surrounds us. We put things into perspective and live close to our own values. We want no more, nor no less for ourselves than we want for others. We are empowered to be ourselves.

Lecture series on Empowerment

In 2018 I created a lecture series presented in Hanoi to an audience of about 50. The lectures were presented in a series that began with our inner life, the personal psychology of self-knowledge and self-awareness. From there, the topic expanded to the ways we relate to others in the world from the foundation of the empowered self.

Lecture 3 expanded to look at the circumstance of the contemporary world and what might influence our individual and collective wellbeing outside the scope of our awareness. The last lecture expanded into the territory of what is possible. We looked at the themes of self-actualization, wisdom, the quality of our personal experiences and the ways and degrees that we have influence in our lives.

You can see the first three lectures by clicking the titles below or follow Douglas’s Facebook Page for more information.

The series cover topics including Emotional Regulation & Equanimity; Understanding Willpower & The Value Of Acceptance; & Ideals, Expectations & Reality. You can find the first four parts of the discussions below.
